Description
A serendipitous few moments beneath a Union Pacific locomotive. (UP 5907) The polished steel and rust of this big wheel caught my camera's attention. Another version of this image, artistically stylized in blues and greens, is also available in this online gallery.
* NOTE -- This image is beautiful and long lasting with your choice of any of FAA's premium finishes, including FAA's lightweight, glossy, Metal Print (image printed on aluminum) or the lustrous Acrylic Print finish (printed behind a crystal-clear sheet of acrylic). Either of these finishes will provide a sleek, contemporary, focal point on your wall.
Metal and Acrylic prints require no framing, and arrive ready-to-hang. However, both can be reflective in direct light, so pay careful attention to the lighting (natural and man-made) in your space, before ordering.
If ordering a paper print, FAA's Premium Semi-matte paper would be a great choice for this image.
Other options (paper, canvas, etc.) are also available here.
Explore the attractive custom framing and matting options available on this page; all are competitively priced.

Nice combination of so many different textures, colours and surfaces. The shininess of the wheel tyre making a great contrast to the other elements. Lots of colour and interest! v

Gorgeous - This is one of the fundamentals of railroad technology - wheel meeting rail. The polish on the contacting surfaces contrasts so strongly with the rust on the other parts. Beautiful and intriguing.
Wendy J St Christopher replied:
The beautiful contrast is exactly what caught my eye, Johnny! Well, that -- and the fact that I can't resist shiny things, in general. :-) Thanks for the lovely comment.
Steven Milner
Love the difference you captured in this image!!! Stunningly beautiful!!! V/F
Wendy J St Christopher replied:
Thank you for the wonderful comment, Steven. It's easy to be inspired by such a great subject! :-)
Donna Proctor
Great shot and incredible digital enhancements, Wendy... the polished wheel and overall detail is amazing - titled to perfection! Definitely a f/v from me :)
Wendy J St Christopher replied:
Thanks very much, Donna. It was the shine on that wheel that caught my eye . . . and the fact that I could fit my head under there. ;-)
Gregory Scott
A very interesting subject, where the amazing polishing of the wheel in a dirty environment is displayed in a highly emphasized manner.
Wendy J St Christopher replied:
Thanks, Gregory -- polished and sterile, if the heat coming off this thing was any indication.

The color and depth of this is really beautiful! So many times, I think that the camera just doesn't capture how I think the image will look and especially how the light (and color) will look. Your photos and enhancements are awe inspiring!
Wendy J St Christopher replied:
Thanks so much, Diana! After years of 'straight' photography, I remember how excited I was to discover awesome, digital 'nudges' for my images. Digital enhancements are virtually limitless -- if you can imagine it, you can do it -- without the toxic, expensive environment of the traditional darkroom. I'm all for using any technique that helps me tell visual stories exactly the way I want to! :-)
