A dark background sets the stage for this elegant Magnolia blossom.

Magnolia is the official state flower of both Mississippi and Louisiana. This dramatic bloom, however, was photographed in my neighbor Olivia's front yard, in San Antonio, Texas.

During certain months of the year, her beautiful magnolia tree decorates and perfumes the entire block. (And, she doesn't mind when I lurk in her yard, toting my camera and a ladder!)
